Shopping

Shopping in Alaska’s Rainforest Islands provides the opportunity to bring home a bit of the real Alaska. Take the community of Petersburg on Mitkof Island for example; those who travel to this island community soon learn its shops are laden with everything from the latest, wearable fashions to great souvenirs.

Of course, visitors (and residents!) find treasures and keepsakes created by local artist throughout the region. Everything from handcrafted works made of local wood to those created with polished Alaskan fossils and rock to artist paintings and photography, handmade silver and gold jewelry and more can be found in small shops and at local festivals.

First Friday in Petersburg

From galleries to outfitter stores, Petersburg has a great deal to offer.
Unique, locally-owned and operated businesses feature quality handcrafted items, including local and Native Alaska art, authentic Scandinavian gifts, and many other items designed to make your travels comfortable and memorable. The First Friday of each month, Petersburg gallery and shops are open late to showcase their newest artwork.
