Petersburg and Kake – 7 Days

Day 1

Fly to Petersburg from Seattle on Alaska Airlines. Overnight in one of Petersburg’s unique B-n-B’s. Stroll through downtown Petersburg and enjoy the variety of public art on display.

Day 2

Rent a car to begin exploring Mitkof Island and the Tongass National Forest boardwalk trails, lakes, and other scenic areas along the 100+ mile road system. Overnight in Petersburg.

Day 3

Experience world-class whale watching today on a scheduled day boat cruise into Frederick Sound where close to 500 humpback whales migrate every year. Overnight in Petersburg.

Day 4

Take this day to explore more of LeConte Bay by taking a guided kayak trip. Look for all the variety of marine life that inhabits this beautiful glacial bay. Overnight in Petersburg.

Day 5 – 7

Take the Alaska Marine Highway to Kake (opt to rent a car in Petersburg and bring it with you on the ferry to explore more of Kupreanof Island). Plan to spend a couple of nights at Keex Kwan Lodge. Take a walk around the quaint native village, visit the world’s tallest totem and visit the Gunnuck Creek Hatchery – keep your eyes open for bears! Return via Alaska Marine Highway to Petersburg.
