Wrangell and Prince of Wales Geological Tour – 7 Days

Day 1

Fly into Wrangell on Alaska Airlines. Take a walk along the beach front and if there’s time, visit Petroglyph Beach State Historical Park and see ancient Tlingit petroglyphs. Overnight in Wrangell.

Day 2

Schedule a day tour to Anan Wildlife Observatory. Spend the day marveling at the majesty of the Alaska black bear feasting on salmon in its natural habitat. Overnight in Wrangell.

Day 3

Today, schedule a flightseeing excursion over the Stikine River, one of the most pristine and scenic river systems in the world. Overnight in Wrangell.

Day 4

Take the Rainforest Ferry from Wrangell to Coffman Cove on Prince of Wales Island. Watch for whales and other marine wildlife. Rent a car in Coffman Cove to explore the island. Overnight in Coffman Cove.

Day 5

Drive to Thorne Bay, hike the Salt Chuck Mine Trail. Stop in Thorne Bay to grab lunch and make sure to contact the Thorne Bay Ranger District to schedule a tour of El Capitan Cave Trail. Drive to Whale Pass, visit the town and beautiful El Capitan passage. Overnight in Whale Pass or Coffman Cove.

Day 6

Do the tour of the karst topography and El Capitan Cave Trail. Make sure your camera is charged up and ready! Overnight in Thorne Bay.

Day 7

Take a leisurely drive to Hollis and catch the Inter-Island Ferry to Ketchikan to prepare for your journey home.
